Veterinary surgeons
Ian McConnell BSc (Hons) BVM&S MRCVS
Ian McConnell graduated from the University of Edinburgh and originally practiced at what is now our Uppermill branch. In 2000 Ian opened up the Mossley practice, having many clinical interests including orthopaedic surgery and a developing interest in animal behaviour. Running a busy veterinary centre leaves little spare time but Ian does enjoy socialising, cycling and caravanning.
Jill Atkin BVMS MRCVS
Jill qualified as a vet in 1994 from Glasgow University, after local education at St Mary’s CE Primary, Greenfield and Hulme Grammar School for Girls in Oldham. She spent three years working in Mansfield in Nottinghamshire in equine and small animal practice and has been with this practice nearly seven years. Jill’s specialism is Veterinary Acupuncture which is proving to be increasingly popular in the practice.
Lorna Cook BVetMed MRCVS
Lorna was brought up in Tameside and went to school and Sixth Form College there. After a year out working she went to study at the Royal Veterinary College in London and gained her Batchelor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Lorna worked in Leyland for two years before joining Ian McConnell’s in October 2008 and enjoys all aspects of surgery especially wound management. We are delighted to announce that Lorna and husband are expecting their first child in June so Lorna will be away from the practice for a little time.
Luke Ainsworth BVSc MRCVS
Luke qualified from Bristol in 2005 and spent a year in mixed practice before choosing to focus on small animal work. He spent six months in various small animal locum jobs whilst travelling throughout Australia and joined Ian McConnell Practice in March this year. In his spare time he enjoys a wide range of music and concerts and also plays and watches football, rock climbs and goes snowboarding when possible.
